With Ellora under lockdown, Pavi steals away to the Eastern Outskirts and finally discovers her old home. Meanwhile, out in the Harshlands, Nisha makes a new spirit friend, who leads her to unlock a memory she wishes she could forget.

Pavi dreams of Nisha being hunted. Her sister revealed she was the Avatar. She wasn't celebrated. Ellora immediately saw her as the more dangerous threat. The Faceless were completely forgotten. All of Kayoko's attention has been on finding the Avatar. She's fixated on it. It's been two weeks. Pavi and Nisha have had to survive without the protection of the White Lotus. They're separated from each other too. Part of Pavi's dream stems from that pain. They just found each other. They forgot where they came from. Now, they can't imagine being out of each other's lives for good. They each have the destiny to serve as the Avatar. That's a terrifying prospect for Pavi. She saw Ellora react to Nisha. That same fate will come for her if she's found. Jae is trying his best to protect the Twin Avatars from afar. Kayoko promoted him to Commander. He leads the search. He's still loyal to the White Lotus and Ellora. He believes in the Avatars. He wants to make sure they're safe. Pavi can't trust him. She's been betrayed by too many people. She can only count on her sister. She hasn't had any luck in finding her either. Pavi knows how to survive on her own. She doesn't want to. The loneliness is even more striking now because she found what was missing.

Pavi hopes she can find her parents if she can't find Nisha. She was always more committed to that mission. She wanted to know what happened to them. She has assembled all the clues. She knows where to look. It's simply a matter of priorities. She's desperate enough for any kind of salvation. She's thrilled when she spots the tree that symbolizes her family. She's motivated to find home. It's buried underneath the sand. She has the power to unearth the past. She doesn't find anything. She's only haunted by more happy memories. She gets to see her parents again. They are living happily together. Something dramatic obviously happened to the family. That's the source of so much pain and trauma. Pavi and Nisha were playful children. They were bending at home. They teased each other. They got along. Everything seems perfect. The family survived together. Knowing that doesn't provide any comfort. It only amplifies the pain. Pavi understands more of what's been lost. That's enough for her to give up on this mission altogether. Having Nisha as a sister is all she needs.
Nisha is forced to survive on her own in the Harshlands. She fights off the creatures that roam. It's a battle that requires more than one bending ability. She's fiercely protective of Ruhi. She won't let anything bad happen to him. She yearns for Pavi too. Her sister warned her about how the Haven felt about the Avatar. Nisha experienced it firsthand. That betrayal was up close and personal. She only wanted to help. The White Lotus sacrificed themselves to save her. She got out of the Haven before the lockdown began. Life is miserable in the Haven while the search continues. Nisha can't bend her way out of this problem either. Instead, she must quiet her mind. Meditation is the solution. She hopes it will provide a path to Pavi. She doesn't know what to expect from the spirit world. She goes into fight mode once a spirit appears. She believes it's the latest threat that means her harm. She's directed to a memory. She experiences the past as well. It's far more traumatic for her. She relives the moment she is physically separated from the rest of her family. That includes Pavi. That emotional heartbreak reaches all the way to her sister. That makes it easy for Pavi to find Nisha. Even when Pavi admits she's chasing ghosts, Nisha doesn't share what she just experienced. It's easier to say a spirit attacked her.
The sisters have each other. That's not enough when they are trapped in a storm. That requires an assist from Agam. She doesn't wish them harm. She offers sanctuary. She is far more skilled and capable as a bender than she let on. That power remains impressive. The Faceless hide in plain sight. The Harshlands are covered in sand that hides the world as it once was. For a sandbender, it's easy to hide by manipulating the environment. Agam provides that. It's unfortunate that the Avatars and Faceless are spotted together. Two guards come across that sight. That provides direction and urgency to Kayoko's plight. She was willing to deal with anyone who could provide clues to the Avatar. She's paranoid and fears Jae may remain loyal to the White Lotus. He has to prove himself. The longer the search for the Avatar goes on, the more doubt creeps in. He's not even aware Karthik and the other prisoners have been transferred to a new facility. Datu holds that secret. He believes all of the secrets in their relationship have come out. Jae knows better. For the survival and safety of Ellora, he'll have to betray Datu. His mission is more important than love.
