ABC Family Renews 'Switched at Birth,' 'Melissa & Joey' & 'Baby Daddy'; Orders More 'Bunheads'; Cancels 'Jane By Design'

        Friday, August 17 - Today, ABC Family has announced that they are renewing drama Switched at Birth and comedies Baby Daddy and Melissa & Joey as well as ordering more episodes of Bunheads.



The cable network has officially renewed Switched at Birth - returning September 3 - for a second season, Melissa & Joey for a third and Baby Daddy for a second. Additionally, they have ordered more episodes for new series Bunheads' first season.

Season 1B of Bunheads will debut this upcoming winter while Baby Daddy and Melissa & Joey will return in Spring 2012.

“Two years ago we embarked on a bold strategy to grow the breadth and scope of original programming and create a Wednesday night summer comedy destination,” said Michael Riley, president of ABC Family. “The new series have resonated with our viewers, and the combination of drama, comedy and reality brings great depth to our lineup. Our stable of strong series continues to grow, and I’m thrilled with the strength of our schedule.”

Added Kate Juergens, executive vp, original serires programming and deveopment at ABC Family: “I’m so pleased to add more Baby Daddy and Bunheads to our lineup, and to have already put a Beverly Hills Nannies reunion special into production. So many returning originals spotlight how well our programming resonates with our audience. It also furthers our promise to continue to deliver programming that is engaging, optimistic and relatable.”

An official decision on the future of Jane By Design is still up in the air.
It has now been confirmed that the cabler has decided to pull the plug on Jane By Design - a few weeks after airing its finale.
