MTV Renews 'Awkward' for Season 4; Taps New Showrunners

Monday, August 5 - MTV has announced the pickup of its flagship comedy series Awkward for a fourth season. The network has also named Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler as new co-showrunners - after series creator/showrunner Lauren Iungerich left the series after wrapping production on Season 3 at the end of June.

MTV had been expected to renew the comedy series but the formal decision hinged on being able to find a new showrunner to replace Iungerich. Alberghini and Chessler previously co-created the VH1 comedy So noTORIous starring Tori Spelling and have worked on 90210, Are You There Chelsea? and Reba.
Awkward is expected to return for the second half of its 20-episode third season in October 2013.
