Casting News - January 30, 2014

CBS's Elementary & Extant; The CW's Star-Crossed; NBC's The Blacklist; TNT's Franklin & Bash and The Last Ship; and USA's Playing House.

CBS's EXTANT
  • Goran Visnjic (ER, Red Widow) and Michael O'Neill (Grey's Anatomy, Rectify) will co-star opposite Halle Berry in the upcoming summer drama series. Visnjic will play John Watts, Molly's (Berry) husband. O'Neill will play Alvin Sparks, a former astronaut who now is the director of the privatized space program.
CBS's ELEMENTARY
  • WGN America continues its aggressive push into building up its programming slate by acquiring the off-network syndication rights to the CBS procedural drama - now in its second season and starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. No premiere date on the cable network or a precise licensing fee number were immediately announced. "Elementary is a first-rate drama and terrific addition to the lineup of compelling content that is redefining WGN America," said network president Matt Cherniss. "It's a perfect complement to our recent off-network acquisition, Person of Interest." The move essentially guarantees the drama will continue to air new original episodes on CBS for the foreseeable future.
NBC's THE BLACKLIST
  • Two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (Bullets Over Broadway, Hannah and Her Sisters) has landed a guest starring role on the breakout NBC drama. She will appear in Episode 15, titled "The Judge (#57)," as the kind, sympathetic head of Amnesty United, an organization that fights against the death penalty.
USA's PLAYING HOUSE
  • The upcoming comedy series has booked an all-star list of comedians to appear on its first season - including Bobby Moynihan, Lindsay Sloane, Jason Mantzoukas, Ian Roberts, Andy Daly and John Lutz. Moynihan will play Danny, a self-conscious cop; Sloane will play Tina, Mark's (Keegan-Michael Key) high-strung wife; Mantzoukas will play CJ, Maggie's (Lennon Parham) high school crush. Roberts will play Ian, a local cop who went to high school with Maggie, Emma (Jessica St. Clair) and Marl. Daly will play Gary, Maggie's charming divorce lawyer. Lutz will play Rodney, a band geek who has secretly been in love with Emma since high school.
THE CW's STAR-CROSSED
  • The upcoming alien series is staging a Friday Night Lights reunion. Dora Madison Burge has booked a recurring role on the Aimee Teegarden-led drama. She will play a new classmate of Emery's (Teegarden).
TNT's FRANKLIN & BASH
  • Toni Trucks (Hostages, Made in Jersey) is joining the legal drama for its 10-episode fourth season as a new series regular. She will play Anita Herrera, an attractive new attorney at the offices described as smart, professional, funny, tough and able to hold her own with the big boys.
TNT's THE LAST SHIP
  • Jocko Sims has been promoted to series regular on the upcoming drama series after guest starring in the pilot. He plays Lieutenant Dalton Burk, a charismatic, fit and tough Navy Lieutenant in charge of Tac Group One.
