FX Cancels 'The Bridge' After 2 Seasons

FX announced today that they will not be moving forward with a third season of The Bridge. The drama starred Diane Kruger and Demián Bichir, with Elwood Reid serving as showrunner for the second season.

Based on the popular Danish-Swedish drama Bron, The Bridge followed two detectives - Sonya Cross (Kruger) and Marco Ruiz (Bichir) - on opposite sides of the U.S.-Mexico border working together on cases.

The drama also starred Annabeth Gish, Thomas M. Wright, Emily Rios, Matthew Lillard and Ted Levine, with Ramón Franco and Franka Potente appearing in major recurring roles.

Reid, Meredith Stiehm, Carolyn G. Bernstein and Lars Blomgren served as executive producers. FX Productions and Shine America produced the drama.

The second season - which ended on October 1, 2014 - was a major improvement creatively over the first season. However, the ratings never saw a bounce back to the numbers from the first part of the first season.

In a statement, the team at Shine America shared, "We thank our partners at FX for their tireless efforts in developing and launching The Bridge with us. From its fresh, unique voice to its deep and diverse ensemble cast, this is a series that we are all very proud of."
