Showtime Cancels 'Happyish' After One Season

Showtime has opted to cancel its original comedy series Happyish starring Steve Coogan and Kathryn Hahn after one season, it was announced today.

The comedy centered on Thom Payne (Coogan), a depressed middle-aged man, who is confronted with new, younger bosses at the advertising firm where he works. Thom's pursuit of happiness is seriously compromised and he finds he must content himself with feeling "happyish."

The cast also included Bradley Whitford, Ellen Barkin, Carrie Preston and Andre Royo.

The series was created by Shalom Auslander and opened to an unimpressive 430,000 total viewers on April 5. Its season finale dipped even further to only 261,000 total viewers.

Happyish was met with very mixed reviews and the show's inability to land any major Emmy nominations last week probably led to today's cancellation.
