NBC Orders 5 More Episodes of 'Chicago Med'

NBC has ordered five additional episodes for the first season of Chicago Med - bringing its season total to 18 episodes. The order isn't that surprising given the show's strong performance in the ratings throughout its first four episodes.

Chicago Med sets on an emergency room in Chicago and the professional and personal lives of the doctors, nurses and administrators who work there.

The drama stars Colin Donnell, Nick Gehlfuss, Yaya DaCosta, Torrey DeVitto, Rachel DiPillo, Brian Tee, S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt.

Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas developed the series, with Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider serving as showrunners for the first season. Additional executive producers include Peter Jankowski, Arthur W. Forney and Danielle Gelber. Universal Television and Wolf Films produce.

The other two shows in the Chicago franchise - Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. - have already been renewed for the 2016-17 season.
