Development News - February 16, 2016

ABC's Chunk and Bean, Dream Team & Time After Time; CBS' The Great Indoors & Untitled O'Shannon/Butler/Hope; FOX's 24: Legacy; and NBC's The Trail.

CBS' THE GREAT INDOORS
  • Community alum Joel McHale has been cast in the lead role on the multi-camera comedy pilot written by Mike Gibbons. He will play Joel, an outdoorsy guy's guy with a sardonic sense of humor. The longtime star reporter for "The Great Outdoors" magazine, Joel has climbed mountains, confronted bears and led a life of excitement and adventure. But when he's sidelined by an injury, he's forced to take a desk job in the publication's digital and social media department, surrounded by a team of millennials, who view him as an exotic and ancient oddity from another place and time.
NBC's THE TRAIL
  • John Lithgow (3rd Rock From the Sun) and Sherri Shepherd (The View) have joined the cast of the comedy pilot written by Jeff Astrof and Matt Miller. Lithgow will play Larry Henderson, a smart but slightly clueless poetry professor at a South Carolina community college who is accused of murdering his wife. He finds the whole notion of being charged with murder absurd, but he has a couple secrets that could really derail his defense. Shepherd will play Anne, the well-meaning and enthusiastic receptionist and assistant at Josh's makeshift law office. She suffers from facial blindness - the inability to recognize people by their faces - along with a host of other disorders that make her job on the defense team much more difficult.
ABC's CHUNK & BEAN
  • Adam Rodriguez (Empire, Jane the Virgin) will co-star on the comedy pilot written by Ed Herro and Brian Donovan. He will play Jim Rogerson.
ABC's DREAM TEAM
  • Michael Mosley (Sirens), Lindsey Kraft (Getting On) and Michelle Buteau (Key & Peele) have landed regular roles on the comedy pilot written by Kari Lizer and Bill Wrubel. Mosley will play Rick Johnson, who doesn't consider girls' soccer a "real sport" but is completely on board with getting his daughter onto a top-notch soccer team. Kraft will play Michaela, who is married to a competitive OB-GYN and is horrified by the idea of being a soccer mom, knowing full well most of the heavy lifting will fall to her. Buteau will play Olga Diaz, a mother who approaches everything as if it's a competition she's got to win.
FOX's 24: LEGACY
  • Anna Diop (The Messengers, Greenleaf) has been cast on the drama pilot starring Corey Hawkins and Miranda Otto. She will play Nicole, Carter's (Hawkins) wife.
CBS' UNTITLED DAN O'SHANNON, ROBYN BUTLER & WAYNE HOPE PROJECT
  • After being picked up to pilot as a hybrid, the untitled comedy pilot written by Dan O'Shannon, Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope will now be converted to a single camera format. With the change, executive producer Todd Holland has also agreed to direct. The pilot is based on the Australian comedy Upper Middle Bogan.
ABC's TIME AFTER TIME
  • UnREAL star Freddie Stroma will play the lead role on the drama pilot written by Kevin Williamson. The project chronicles the adventures of a young H.G. Wells (Stroma) and his time machine.
