Netflix Reveals Premiere Date for Season 5 of 'House of Cards'

On Inauguration Day, Netflix has decided its a fitting time to announce the return of its hit drama series House of Cards. The streaming service announced a May premiere date for the drama's upcoming fifth season through a video on Twitter.

The drama will return for its 13-episode fifth season on Tuesday, May 30.

The new season will once again star Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and Michael Kelly. Neve Campbell and Joel Kinnaman will continue to recur. New cast additions this season include Patricia Clarkson, Campbell Scott and James Martinez.

Season 5 will be the first season of the political drama without series creator Beau Willimon at the helm. He exited the series at the conclusion of the fourth season and was replaced by senior writers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese as showrunners.

This is also the latest in the calendar year the show has ever premiered. It has traditionally had a February/March premiere window. Launching on May 30 means the show will remain in Emmy contention for this upcoming awards cycle - Spacey, Wright and the show have been perennial nominees.
