Freeform Gives Series Order to Drama 'Siren'

During its upfront presentation today, Freeform announced a series order for original drama series Siren (formerly The Deep) and a pilot presentation order for animated comedy Sticks.

Siren logline: Bristol Cove is a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean.

The cast includes Eline Powell, Alex Roe, Rena Owen, Ian Verdun and Fola Evans-Akingbola.

Eric Wald and Dean White wrote the pilot, which was directed by Scott Stewart. Wald and White will executive produce with showrunner Emily Whitesell, Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb.

Described as a cross between Daria and Girls, Sticks follows the life of Sticks, a neurotic 20-something with a head filled with pop culture references and a love of Chili's who lives with a giant eagle.

Jessica Stickles is writing the pilot and will serve as co-executive producer. Ilana Glazer, Abbi Jacobson, Will Gluck and Richard Schwartz are executive producers. Sony Pictures Television, Olive Bridge Entertainment and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios produce.
