Showtime Picks Up Comedy 'SMILF' Starring Frankie Shaw to Series

Showtime is getting in on the series pickups today - handing an order to half-hour comedy SMILF created by and starring Frankie Shaw. The order is for 10 episodes, which will debut later this year.

Set in Boston, the comedy is a raw look at a single, 20-something whose desires for relationships, sex and a career collide with the realities of young, single motherhood.

In addition to Shaw, the cast includes Rosie O'Donnell, Samara Weaving, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Alex Brightman, Graham Rogers and Kyle Vincent Terry.

Shaw developed the series based on her Sundance award-winning short film of the same name. She executive produces with Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky, Janice Williams and Michael London. Showtime and ABC Signature produce.

"It's thrilling to find an artist with a strong, singular voice that is new to television,” said Gary Levine, President of Programming, Showtime. "Frankie literally does it all on SMILF: writer, producer, director and star, and the results are funny, emotional, surprising and unapologetic."
