Casting News - Amanda Brugel Promoted to Series Regular on Hulu's 'The Handmaid's Tale'; Plus 10 More Updates!

ABC's The Crossing; Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; The CW's The Originals; FOX's The Resident; Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale & Shut Eye; NBC's Law & Order: True Crime, Shades of Blue & This Is Us; Netflix's Maniac; and Showtime's Escape at Dannemora.



HULU's THE HANDMAID'S TALE
  • After recurring throughout Season 1, Amanda Brugel has been promoted to series regular for the drama's upcoming second season. She plays Rita, the Martha for Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski). At the end of the season, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) entrusted her with the dozens of letters written by other Handmaids.
AMAZON's THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL
  • Wallace Shawn (Mozart in the Jungle, Graves) will appear in an upcoming episode of the dramedy's first season. He will play Herb Smith, a self-proclaimed comedy writer who "shapes acts, writes jokes and eats pastrami."
THE CW's THE ORIGINALS
  • Torrance Coombs (Reign) and Jedidiah Goodacre (Descendants) have been cast in recurring roles on the drama's upcoming fifth and final season. Coombs will play Declan, a flirty Irish chef with whom Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) has a physical relationship. Goodacre will play Roman, a charming vampire who meets Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) at school and takes an interest in her family after a mysterious incident occurs.
NBC's THIS IS US
  • Debra Jo Rupp (That '70s Show, Better With You) has landed a recurring role on the drama's upcoming second season. She will play Linda, a social worker who crosses paths with Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson).
NBC's LAW & ORDER: TRUE CRIME - THE MENENDEZ MURDERS
  • Keong Sim (Olympus Has Fallen, Monday Mornings) has booked a recurring role on the upcoming anthology starring Edie Falco. He will play Deputy District Attorney Lester Kuriyama, the second fiddle to DDA Pam Bozanich (Elizabeth Reaser). He's by-the-book, unimaginative, doesn't think outside the box and a life in the DA's office.
ABC's THE CROSSING
  • Melinda McGraw (Mad Men, Outcast) has joined the upcoming drama starring Steve Zahn in a recurring role. No details were immediately released about the character she will be playing.
FOX's THE RESIDENT
  • Tyrant star Moran Atias has been cast as a new series regular on the upcoming drama starring Matt Czuchry. She will play Renata Thorpe, the CEO of the hospital. She is a tough, savvy and elegant businesswoman, not a physician, who is gifted with both cunning and charm.
NBC's SHADES OF BLUE
  • Rizzoli & Isles alum Bruce McGill is set for a recurring role on the drama's upcoming third season. He will play Jordan Ramsey, a ruthless and resourceful man who runs a unit out of the Intelligence Division. Capable of going to extreme measures to ensure the success of his agenda, he is not burdened by an over-active moral compass. He knows what he wants, and he pushes the limits to get it.
NETFLIX's MANIAC
  • The upcoming comedy starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill has added The Leftovers star Justin Theroux in a recurring role. He will play James Mantleray. All additional character details are being kept under wraps.
HULU's SHUT EYE
  • Rowena King (Of Kings and Prophets, Trauma) has landed a recurring role on the drama's upcoming second season. She will play Maggie, a high level advertising executive known for her ability to read and manipulate customers' desires. She is the backbone to "Psychic to the Stars," Paz Kapoor's (Aasif Mandvi) business and the one responsible for taking his street corner mystic act to its world famous status. Charlie (Jeffrey Donovan) will shortly learn that the British-born Maggie is not only his rival in charm, but also in skill.
SHOWTIME's ESCAPE AT DANNEMORA
  • Jeremy Bobb (The Knick, Manhunt: Unabomber) will co-star on the upcoming limited series starring Benicio del Toro, Paul Dano and Patricia Arquette. He will play Dennis Lambert, a corrections officer who supervises Tilly's (Arquette) tailor shop at Clinton Correction and is good friends with her husband, Lyle (Eric Lange).
