Following a major bidding, Netflix has ordered two seasons of the hourlong comedy series The Politician created by Emmy winner Ryan Murphy (The People v. O.J. Simpson) and starring Tony winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen).
EGOT winner Barbra Streisand (Funny Girl, Yentl) and Oscar & Emmy winner Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love, Glee) are also in negotiations to co-star in the series.
The Politician revolves around Payton (Platt), a wealthy Santa Barbara resident. Each season will center on a different political race that the character is involved in. Musical numbers are also expected to be a part of the show.
Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan created the series. Fox 21 Television Studios, Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision produce.
The show marks Murphy's second series set up at Netflix - joining the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest prequel series Ratched starring Emmy winner Sarah Paulson.
