Netflix Sets Premiere Date for Season 4 of 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'

Netflix has today announced a premiere date for the upcoming fourth season of its original comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The streaming service is changing up its release strategy with the show this year. It will be splitting the fourth season up into two halves. The first half comprised of six episodes will debut on Wednesday, May 30. The second half of the season will premiere later in 2018.

The comedy stars Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and Carol Kane.

Tina Fey and Robert Carlock created the comedy. They executive produce with Jeff Richmond, Jack Burditt, Sam Means and David Miner. Universal Television, 3 Arts Entertainment and Little Stranger produce.

The change-up in the release strategy may seem odd for a show in its fourth season. But then, you have to note that the cutoff for Emmy eligibility is May 31, 2018. Across the show's first three shows, it has been nominated for 16 Emmys - including 3 for Best Comedy Series. Releasing six episodes will ensure it stays in the race for this upcoming ceremony.
