Several months after first putting the project into development, Apple has given a series order to the original drama Are You Sleeping starring Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer (The Help, Hidden Figures, The Shape of Water). The first season will feature 10 episodes.
Based on the true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber, the drama offers a glimpse into America's obsession with true crime podcasts. It challenges viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is put on a public stage.
Nichelle Tramble Spellman created the drama. She will executive produce with Spencer, Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kristen Campo. Hello Sunshine and Chernin Entertainment will produce.
The drama marks the third series at Apple executive produced by Reese Witherspoon. It joins an untitled drama starring Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston as well as an untitled comedy starring Kristen Wiig.
