FOX Renews 'Lethal Weapon' for Season 3, Seann William Scott to Replace Clayne Crawford

FOX has renewed its original drama series Lethal Weapon for a third season, it was announced today. The renewal was tied closely to the production finding a new co-lead to replace Clayne Crawford, who was fired from the show at the end of its second season.

The drama stars Damon Wayans, Jordana Brewster, Keesha Sharp, Kevin Rahm, Johnathan Fernandez, Chandler Kinney, Dante Brown and Michelle Mitchenor.

Matt Miller created the drama. He executive produces with Dan Lin, Jennifer Gwartz and McG. Warner Bros. Television, Lin Pictures and Good Session Productions produce.

The future of the series was put in limbo over the last few weeks after reports came out saying that there was tension on the set due to Crawford's bad behavior. The actor released an apology confirming that he had been reprimanded for two incidents on the set this year. However, Warner Bros. confirmed last week that it would not be renewing Crawford's contract for another season. As such, the show felt the need to find a new co-lead in order to trigger a season three pickup.

And now, the drama has done that by casting Seann William Scott - from the American Pie and Ice Age franchises - as the new co-lead opposite Damon Wayans. No details were immediately released about the character he will be playing. Though it's been rumored that he will play the brother to Crawford's Martin Riggs, thus allowing the well-known name to continue being featured in the series.

"Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast," said Michael Thorn, President, Fox Entertainment. "Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we're thrilled to bring this show back for another season."
