NBC Gives Series Order to Drama 'New Amsterdam'

NBC has picked up its first pilot from development season to series for the 2018-19 schedule. The broadcast network has today given a series order to the medical drama New Amsterdam.

Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer's memoir Twelve Patients: Life & Death at Bellevue Hospital, the drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution's newest medical doctor who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. He must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and under-appreciated hospital - the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof - and return it to the glory that put it on the map.

The drama stars Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Tyler Labine, Jocko Sims, Freema Agyeman and Anupam Kher.

David Schulner wrote the pilot, which was directed by Kate Dennis. They executive produce with Peter Horton. Manheimer serves as a producer. Universal Television and Pico Creek Productions produce.
