Netflix is expanding its relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais - today giving a series order to his new original comedy series After Life which he created, will star in and direct. The first season will include six episodes.
The comedy revolves around Tony (Gervais), who had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it's like a super power - not caring about himself or anyone else - but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.
Gervais' frequent collaborate Charlie Hanson will also executive produce the series.
The new series marks the latest project that Gervais has set up at Netflix. The streaming service was home to the two seasons of comedy Derek, his feature film spinoff of the British The Office titled David Brent: Life on the Road, as well as a pair of stand-up comedy specials.
