Showtime Gives Series Order to Drama 'City on a Hill' Starring Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge

Showtime has today given a series order to the original drama City on a Hill starring Kevin Bacon (The Following) and Aldis Hodge (Underground). The first season will include 12 episodes and debut in 2019.

In the early 1990s, Boston was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm, and then it all suddenly changed. At the center is an African-American District Attorney who comes in from Brooklyn advocating change and the unlikely alliance he forms with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran who is invested in maintaining the status quo. Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to encompass and eventually upend Boston's city-wide criminal justice system.

In addition to Bacon and Hodge, the drama also stars Jonathan Tucker, Mark O'Brien, Jill Hennessy, Lauren E. Banks, Amanda Clayton, Kevin Chapman and Jere Shea.

Guest stars in the pilot include Kevin Dunn, Cathy Moriarty, Michael O'Keefe and Rory Culkin.

Chuck MacLean wrote the pilot, which was directed by Michael Cuesta. They executive produce with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Gavin O'Connor, Jennifer Todd and James Mangold. Bacon is a co-executive producer. Pearl Street Films produces.

"City on a Hill has the veneer of a classic Boston cops-and-robbers drama, but actually dives head first into challenging the very institutions it depicts," said David Nevins, CEO, Showtime. "In reality, the series is a penetrating look at the larger criminal justice system and those who operate within it, with mesmerizing performances by Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge anchoring the suspense."
