Casting News - Giancarlo Esposito to Play Crime Lord on 'Jett'; Jane Leeves Joins 'The Resident'; Plus 1 More Update!

Casting News - June 19, 2018

Cinemax's Jett; FOX's The Resident; and HBO's Lovecraft Country.

FOX's THE RESIDENT
  • Jane Leeves has joined the drama's upcoming second season as a new series regular. She starred for eleven seasons in NBC's Frasier and six seasons in TV Land's Hot in Cleveland.
  • She will play Dr. Kitt Voss, a star orthopedic surgeon. She will be a kickass new mentor for the residents. She also attracts the roving eye of Dr. Bell (Bruce Greenwood), while butting heads with larger-than-life cardiothoracic surgeon AJ Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner).
CINEMAX's JETT
  • Giancarlo Esposito, Elena Anaya, Michael Aronov, Gaite Jansen, Chris Backus, Gil Bellows and Violet McGraw will star on the upcoming drama opposite Carla Gugino. Furthermore, Jodie Turner-Smith, Genty White, Lucy Walters and Mustafa Shakir have been cast in recurring roles.
  • No specific character details were immediately released about the characters they will be playing. However, it is believed that Esposito will be playing a powerful crime lord. Additionally, he only has a one-year deal for the new show. So, it shouldn't interfere with his regular role on AMC's Better Call Saul should it be renewed for a fifth season.
HBO's LOVECRAFT COUNTRY
  • Courtney B. Vance, Aunjanue Ellis and Elizabeth Debicki will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Jonathan Majors. Vance won an Emmy Award for his performance in FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson. Ellis starred for two seasons in ABC's Quantico. Debicki appeared in the AMC miniseries The Night Manager and the HBO film The Tale.
  • Vance will play Uncle George, who has always been more like a father to Atticus (Majors). Warm, funny and well read, he was the first to introduce Atticus to the wonderful and strange world of pulp novels. As the publisher of the "Safe Negro Travel Guide," he's been on enough adventures to understand there's no place like home.
  • Ellis will play Hippolyta Black, George's wife, Atticus' aunt and a star gazer. She's been a housewife most of her life with dreams of getting into some adventures of her own, despite her husband's misgivings. Her itch for adventure will eventually, literally and figuratively, take her to the stars and beyond.
  • Debicki will play Christina Braithwhite, the only daughter of Samuel Braithwhite, the leader of a secret order calling themselves the "Sons of Adam." She's gone to great lengths to earn her father's respect, to no avail. She's going to pave her own path to power, and she's going to use Atticus and his family to do it.
