Netflix Picks Up Dolly Parton Anthology Series Based on Her Songs

Netflix has today given a series order to an untitled episodic anthology series based on the musical hits of country music icon Dolly Parton. The first season will feature eight episodes.

Each episode of the anthology will be based on a song from the iconic singer - in the same vein as her recent NBC movies Coat of Many Colors and its sequel Coat of Many Colors: Circle of Love.

Parton will serve as singer-songwriter, executive producer and will appear throughout the series. Sam Haskell will also executive produce. Warner Bros. Television, Dixie Pixie Productions and Magnolia Hill Entertainment will produce.

"As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music," said Parton. "I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support."
