Netflix Orders Dramas 'Jupiter's Legacy' and 'American Jesus' Based on Mark Millar's Comics

Almost a year after Mark Millar signed an exclusive deal with the streaming service, Netflix has ordered a pair of original drama series based on his comic book series - Jupiter's Legacy and American Jesus.

Jupiter's Legacy is based on Millar's ongoing comic of the same name, which was first published in 2013. The first season will feature eight episodes.

The multigenerational drama follows the world's first generation of superheroes, who received their powers in the 1930s. In the present day, they're the revered elder guard, but their super-powered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents.

Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil, Spartacus) developed the drama and will direct the premiere. He will executive produce with Millar, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott. Millarworld will produce.

American Jesus is based on Millar's comic, initially published as Chosen in 2004. The multilingual series in Spanish and English will feature six episodes in its first season.

The drama follows a 12-year-old boy who suddenly discovers he has returned as Jesus Christ and can turn water into wine and perhaps even raise the dead. The season explores how he will deal with the destiny to lead the world in a conflict thousands of years in the making.

Brothers Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout developed the drama, with Everardo set to direct. They will executive produce with Millar. Millarworld will produce.
