CBS All Access Orders 2 Seasons of 'Star Trek' Animated Comedy 'Lower Decks'

CBS All Access continues to expand its Star Trek universe today with a two-season pickup for the original animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks created by Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty). An episode count and premiere date were not immediately announced for the series, which marks the first animated show for the streaming service.

The animated comedy will focus on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships.

McMahan created the comedy. He will executive produce with Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Katie Krentz. Aaron Baiers will serve as a co-executive producer. CBS Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment will produce.

"We couldn't have imagined a better creative team to work with on CBS All Access' first original animated series than Mike McMahan, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment," said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President of Originals, CBS All Access. "Star Trek: Lower Deck is a fantastic complement to our growing lineup of original series and our ongoing expansion of the Star Trek universe on CBS All Access."
