Development News - 'Luke Cage's Mike Colter to Play Male Lead in 'Evil'; Jee Young Han to Star in 'Like Magic'; Plus 3 More Updates!

Development News - February 19, 2019

CBS' Evil & Under the Bridge; The CW's Batwoman; NBC's Like Magic; and TBS' Chad.

CBS' EVIL
  • Mike Colter is reuniting with Robert and Michele King as the male lead on the drama pilot starring Katja Herbers. He previously worked with the Kings on CBS' The Good Wife, where he appeared in a major recurring role. He has also made one appearance on the drama's spinoff The Good Fight on CBS All Access. More recently though, he played the titular hero in Netflix's Luke Cage for two seasons, and also played the character in Jessica Jones and The Defenders.
  • He will play David Dacosta, a Catholic priest-in-training who is tasked by the Church to assess unexplained phenomena to see if there is a supernatural or scientific explanation.
NBC's LIKE MAGIC
  • Jee Young Han has been cast in the lead role on the comedy pilot written by Bridget Kyle and Vicky Luu. She has previously recurred on ABC's Station 19, Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet and IFC's Comedy Bang! Bang!.
  • She will play Holly, an optimistic young woman pursuing her dreams in the mysterious world of the Magic Palace. She is a little nerdy and awkward, but she's also so genuine and friendly that she can be charming.
TBS' CHAD
  • Jake Ryan will co-star on the comedy pilot written by and starring Nasim Pedrad. He starred in the 2018 film Eighth Grade. His guest credits include ABC's Splitting Up Together and FOX's The Cool Kids.
  • He will play Peter, Chad's (Pedrad) best friend, a sweet nerd who has nothing to prove and is unbothered that puberty is destroying him. He has no particular angst about attending his first day at high school. He is content with not being popular and is ready to have a great time, unlike the neurotic Chad.
CBS' UNDER THE BRIDGE
  • David Ajala has booked a series regular role on the drama pilot written by Rina Mimoun. He previously starred for two seasons in USA's Falling Water and one season in Syfy's Nightflyers. He is currently recurring on The CW's Supergirl.
  • He will play Dan, a gorgeous, dry and somewhat broken man who works hard for everything, except sex. That comes easily. Back in the day, he hoped that Kate would wind up with him, but she married his best friend, Michael, instead. When Dan votes to separate Michael from their medical practice, Michael considers it a personal betrayal. Only Dan knows the real reason: that in order to protect his best friend, he must be willing to sacrifice their relationship.
THE CW's BATWOMAN
  • Dougray Scott has landed a series regular role on the drama pilot starring Ruby Rose. Furthermore, Marcos Siega has been tapped to replace David Nutter as the director of the pilot. Both Siega and Nutter will executive produce. Nutter had to step aside due to personal reasons.
  • Scott (Snatch, Hemlock Grove) will play Jacob Kane, a former military colonel with a chip on his shoulder for Batman. He now commands Gotham's private security firm The Crows, and has made it his mission to protect his city better than the Dark Knight ever could. But it's only a matter of time before his unwavering disdain for vigilantes puts him at odds with Gotham's new caped crusader - who also happens to be his own daughter, Kate (Rose).
