Casting News - September 9, 2019

Disney+'s Hawkeye; Netflix's The Eddy; and USA's Dirty John.

USA's DIRTY JOHN
  • Amanda Peet and Christian Slater will star in the upcoming second season of the anthology series - now titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story. Peet has appeared in all three seasons of IFC's Brockmire. Slater currently stars in USA's Mr. Robot, which returns for its fourth and final season next month.
  • Beginning in the 1960s and spanning a couple decades, the story follows Betty (Peet) and Dan Broderick (Slater). After years of sacrifice and suffering while supporting Dan through both medical and law school, Betty is finally enjoying the fruits of their labors after Dan becomes a superstar in the San Diego legal community. Until, that is, he hires Linda, a bright and beautiful young woman with whom he can forget the struggles of his past. Betty's attempts to fight back and refusal to accept reality only serve to isolate and destabilize her - to the point where she loses her identity. Dan's cold confidence, meanwhile, blinds him to the bear he won't stop poking until it's too late.
  • The new season has also announced a slate of all female directors, with Maggie Kiley serving the production as a co-executive producer and director of four episodes - including the premiere and finale. The other directors for season two include Kat Candler, Meera Menon, Shannon Kohli and series creator Alexandra Cunningham, making her directorial debut.
NETFLIX's THE EDDY
  • Melissa George has booked a recurring role on the upcoming drama starring AndrĂ© Holland and Joanna Kulig. She previously recurred on CBS' The Good Wife and Hulu's The First. She also starred in NBC's one-season drama Heartbeat.
  • She will play Alison Jenkins, a sophisticated New Yorker, who visits her ex-husband (Holland) and daughter (Amandla Stenberg) in Paris, with complicated results.
DISNEY+'s HAWKEYE
  • Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to star opposite Jeremy Renner in the upcoming drama set in the Marvel universe. She earned an Academy Award nomination in 2010 for the film True Grit. She has also starred in the films The Edge of Seventeen, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Bumblebee. She next stars in Apple's upcoming comedy Dickinson.
  • She will play Kate Bishop, a young hero trained by Clint Barton (Renner) to fight crime with the help of a bow and arrow.
