Showtime Orders 8 Episodes of Drama 'Ripley' Starring Andrew Scott

Showtime has today given a series order to the original drama series Ripley starring Andrew Scott (Fleabag, His Dark Materials). Based on the novels by Patricia Highsmith, the drama's first season will produce 8 episodes.

The series will follow Tom Ripley (Scott) from 1960s New York to Italy after he's hired by a wealthy man to retrieve his vagabond son to return America. Deceit, fraud, murder and palpable sexual tension ensue.

Steven Zaillian (The Night Of) will write and direct the entire first season. He will also executive produce with Garrett Basch, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel. Scott will serve as a producer. Endemol Shine North America, Entertainment 360 and Filmrights will produce.

"We are so thrilled to have the supremely talented filmmaker, Steve Zaillian, adapt the singular saga of Tom Ripley from Patricia Highsmith's novels as an ongoing series for Showtime," said Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime. "With Andrew Scott, whose charisma knows no bounds, inhabiting the iconic lead role, we feel confident that this will be a special one."
