Dwayne Johnson to Star in NBC Comedy 'Young Rock' Inspired by His Childhood

During its presentation at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, NBC gave a straight-to-series order to the original comedy Young Rock inspired by the life of actor Dwayne Johnson. The first season will produce 11 episodes, which will debut during the 2020-21 broadcast schedule.

Johnson will appear in every episode as the comedy will focus on his formative years.

Fresh Off the Boat creator Nahnatchka Khan co-created the comedy with Jeff Chiang. They will executive produce with Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz and Jennifer Carreras. Universal Television, Seven Bucks Productions and Fierce Baby Productions will produce.

The new comedy will extend Johnson's relationship with NBC. He also serves as host and executive producer of The Titan Games, which has been renewed for a second season.

Young Rock is the second comedy NBC has picked up straight-to-series for the next broadcast season. It joins an untitled comedy created by 30 Rock's Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. That comedy stars Ted Danson, Holly Hunter and Bobby Moynihan.
