Development News - Sarah Lancashire to Play Julia Child in HBO Max Pilot; Lex Scott Davis to Co-Star on 'Rebel'

Development News - March 12, 2020

ABC's Rebel and HBO Max's Julia.

ABC's REBEL
  • Lex Scott Davis will co-star on the drama pilot starring Katey Sagal and Andy Garcia. She starred in the film The First Purge. She recently recurred on Showtime's The L Word: Generation Q.
  • She will play Cassidy, the daughter of Rebel (Sagal) and Benji Ray (James Lesure), one part attorney and one part recovering juvenile delinquent. She's inherited her confrontational skills from both of her eloquent, argumentative parents, but she's learned to hide her irritation - a skill her mother never will master. Obliged to act as Rebel's attorney again and again, Cassidy doesn't love being on call for Rebel, especially since Rebel was never on call for her.
HBO MAX NEW PILOT ORDER
  • JULIA (Drama) - Starring Sarah Lancashire, Tom Hollander, Brittany Bradford, Fran Kranz, Fiona Glascott and Bebe Neuwirth, with Isabella Rossellini and Jefferson Mays guest starring. Written by Daniel Goldfarb. Directed by Charles McDougall. Executive produced by Goldfarb, McDougall, showrunner Christopher Keyser, Erwin Stoff and Kimberly Carver. Produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment. Logline: Inspired by Julia Child's extraordinary life and her show The French Chef, which essentially invented food television. Through Julia (Lancashire) and her singular can-do spirit, the series explores an evolving time in American history - the emergence of a new social institution called public television, feminism and the women's movement, the nature of celebrity, and America's cultural growth. At its heart, the show is a portrait of a marriage with an evolving and complicated power dynamic.
