HBO Reveals Premiere Date for New Drama 'Lovecraft Country' Starring Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett

HBO has today announced the premiere date for the upcoming original drama series Lovecraft Country starring Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett.

The 10-episode first season will launch on Sunday, August 16 at 9/8c.

Based on the novel by Matt Ruff, the drama follows Atticus Freeman (Majors) as he journeys with his childhood friend Letitia (Smollett) and his uncle George on a road trip from Chicago across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father Montrose. Their search-and-rescue turns into a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and monstrous creatures that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback.

In addition to Majors and Smollett, the drama stars Aunjanue Ellis, Abbey Lee, Jada Harris, Wunmi Mosaku and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Recurring guest stars in the first season include Courtney B. Vance, Jamie Chung, Jamie Neumann, Jordan Patrick Smith and Tony Goldwyn.

Misha Green developed the drama. She executive produces with J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Ben Stephenson, Bill Carraro, Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim and David Knoller. Warner Bros. Television, Bad Robot Productions, Monkeypaw Productions and afemme, Inc. produce.
