Casting News - April 30, 2021

Amazon's Lightyears; CBS' NCIS: Hawaii; Disney+'s Secret Invasion; HBO Max's Green Lantern & Our Flag Means Death; Netflix's Russian Doll; and Showtime's The Man Who Fell to Earth.

HBO MAX's GREEN LANTERN
  • Finn Wittrock will star in the upcoming drama created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith. He currently stars in Netflix's Ratched, which has been renewed for a second season. He previously received Emmy Award nominations for his supporting performances in FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show and FX's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
  • He will play Guy Gardner aka the Green Lantern, a hulking mass of masculinity and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable.
AMAZON's LIGHTYEARS
  • J.K. Simmons will play the male lead in the upcoming drama starring Sissy Spacek. He replaces Ed O'Neill, who was originally cast but has now left for personal reasons. Simmons won an Academy Award in 2014 for the film Whiplash. He previously starred for six seasons in HBO's Oz, seven seasons in TNT's The Closer and two seasons in Starz's Counterpart. He currently stars in Amazon's animated drama Invincible, which was just renewed for its second and third seasons.
  • He will play Franklin York, a former woodworker with a charmingly grumpy demeanor. After more than 50 years of marriage, he still has a powerful devotion to his wife but doesn't share her fascination with the chamber, a secret which weighs heavily on him. For her sake, he is willing to endure its presence in their lives, but his patience is wearing thin.
CBS' NCIS: HAWAII
  • Vanessa Lachey will headline the cast of the upcoming NCIS spinoff. Moreover, Yasmine Al-Bustami and Jason Antoon have been cast as series regulars today. Lachey hosts Netflix's Love Is Blind and recently recurred on FOX's Call Me Kat. Al-Bustami has previously recurred on The CW's The Originals. Antoon currently stars in TNT's Claws, which has been renewed for a fourth and final season.
  • Lachey will play Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor. She is as diplomatic as she is hard-charging. A woman in a male-dominated profession, she's thrived in a system that's pushed back every step of the way through equal parts confidence and strategy. But she is more than just a job and a title. She's a mother raising her kids mostly on her own. Like any parent who loves their career and their family, she's a master juggler - balancing the duty to both her children and her country.
  • Al-Bustami will play Lucy, a junior member of Tennant's NCIS team. She is confident in the way that reflects a lifetime of achievement and youthful enthusiasm. She is eager to be the first one to find that key piece of evidence, create a workaround in the bureaucracy, or tackle a suspect down a flight of stairs.
  • Antoon will play Ernie, the Cyber Intelligence Special for Tennant's NCIS team. He is a polyglot with a keen mind for technology, history, literature and all things Hawaiian. He's an essential component of the team, who can trace an anonymous ip address or profile a suspect using only their social media footprint. Ernie doesn't have family on the island so he's invited himself to join his Team's families.
HBO MAX's OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH
  • Taika Waititi has joined the cast of the upcoming period comedy starring Rhys Darby. He was previously signed on to executive produce the series and direct the premiere. He won an Academy Award in 2020 for writing the film Jojo Rabbit. He also serves as an executive producer and director on FX's What We Do In the Shadows.
  • He will play Blackbeard, history's most feared and revered pirate.
DISNEY+'s SECRET INVASION
  • Killian Scott will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman. He previously starred in the Starz limited series Dublin Murders. He next stars in AMC's upcoming drama 61st Street.
  • No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.
SHOWTIME's THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH
  • Joana Ribeiro and Annelle Olayele have been cast as series regulars on the upcoming drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris. Ribeiro previously starred in the 2018 feature film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Olayele guest stars on Sky and Epix's upcoming drama Domina.
  • Ribeiro will play Lisa Dominguez, a signals specialist at the CIA who works for Clay (Jimmi Simpson). She is smart, ambitious, talented and dedicated to her country, while carrying the burden of her own secrets.
  • Olayele will play Molly Falls, the first human child to meet the alien (Ejiofor). Her perspective will change the course of our planet's evolution.
NETFLIX's RUSSIAN DOLL
  • Ephraim Sykes is set for a role on the comedy's upcoming second season. He was nominated for a Tony Award in 2019 for his featured role in the musical Ain't Too Proud. He also starred in Hairspray Live! on NBC.
  • No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.
