Starz Sets Premiere Date for 'Power' Prequel 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan' Starring Mekai Curtis and Patina Miller

Starz has today announced the premiere date for its next Power spinoff - the prequel series Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

The new drama will premiere on Sunday, July 18 at 8/7c.

Set in South Jamaica Queens in the early 1990s, the drama revolves around the coming-of-age of Kanan Stark (played in the original series by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson). At 15-years-old, he is the only child of Raquel "Raq" Thomas, a cocaine distributor with an emerging network of dealers across the city. The drama explores themes of identity, violence and legacy, but it is also a deep dive into the very pathology of family; the unique, complicated and fraught dynamic between parent and child, mother and father, brother and sister.

The drama stars Mekai Curtis, Patina Miller, Omar Epps, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Hailey Kilgore, Joey Bada$$, Toby Sandeman, Shanley Caswell, Lovie Simone and Quincy Brown.

Sascha Penn serves as showrunner on the new drama. He executive produces with Jackson, Courtney Kemp, Mark Canton, Chris Selak, Danielle DeJesus, Shana Stein, Bart Wenrich, Kevin Fox and director Rob Hardy. Lionsgate Television, End of Episode, G-Unit Film & Television and Atmosphere Entertainment produce.
