Casting News - June 21, 2021

Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; HBO's Untitled Los Angeles Lakers Drama; HBO Max's Our Flag Means Death; Paramount+'s The Good Fight; and Starz's Power Book II: Ghost.

  • Paton Ashbrook, Berto Colon and Alix Lapri have been promoted to series regulars for the drama's upcoming second season. All three previously recurred on the first season - with Ashbrook and Lapri appearing in 3 episodes while Colon appeared in 5 episodes. Moreover, Lahmard Tate will reprise his Power role on a recurring basis in the new season of the spinoff.
  • Ashbrook plays Jenny Sullivan. After the U.S. Attorney's office swooped in on her high-profile Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughton) case, she went back to the status quo. That is, until Stansfield University professor, Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus), is murdered. Now, Jenny is back in the spotlight, with an eye toward prosecuting his killer - whoever that may be. Little does she know that the killer's new defense attorney - Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson), now working with Davis MacLean (Clifford "Method Man" Smith) - is sharing her bed, with access to her briefcase. Let the games begin.
  • Colon plays Lorenzo Tejada, the patriarch of the Tejada organization who has been calling the shots for the drug organization - even from inside. But as Monet (Mary J. Blige) continues to flex her independence - and a desire to protect her kids from the game - Lorenzo's need to control brings them into conflict. He becomes intrigued by some secrets Monet has been keeping from him - and a conflict grows that threatens to split the Tejada family in two.
  • Lapri plays Effie Morales, a Yale student no stranger to drama. Her quest to financial freedom via drug dealing leads her to big competition - her former Choate classmates Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) and Brayden (Gianni Paolo). But when Effie decides to join forces with them again, she will be forced to determine where her loyalties lie - with herself and herself only, or with people who have shown their true colors time an time again.
  • Tate plays Kamaal Tate. Once again, he is doling out brotherly advice following Rashad's (Larenz Tate) gubernatorial loss. And for once, it seems to take as Kamaal watches his little brother take on a new role serving the people. Until Kamaal is brought in on the investigation at Stansfield and he finds himself with a front-row seat for another one of Rashad's escapades - but this time, Kamaal's own career may be on the line.
  • Mike Epps, Carina Conti, Max E. Williams and Mariama Diallo have joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring John C. Reilly, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody and Sally Field. Epps currently stars in Netflix's The Upshaws, which released its first season last month. Conti previously guest starred in the Amazon limited series The Last Tycoon. Williams has recurred on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Diallo directed and wrote for HBO's Random Acts of Flyness.
  • Epps will play Richard Pryor, the prolific and boundary-breaking comedian who lived the Hollywood dream, sometimes in excess.
  • Conti will play Paula Abdul. Before she was a decade-defining pop star, she was just a high school student from the San Fernando Valley, moonlighting as the innovative choreographer for the Laker Girls.
  • Williams will play Jack Nicholson, an iconic movie star and one of the Lakers' biggest courtside fans.
  • Diallo will play Iman, the wife of Laker Spencer Haywood (Wood Harris). Legendary supermodel Iman brought artistry to the runway and African beauty to the American masses.
  • Kayli Carter has landed a recurring role on the comedy's upcoming fourth season. She recently starred in the FX on Hulu limited series Mrs. America. She also recurred on Netflix's Godless.
  • No details were immediately announced about the character she will be playing.
  • Kristian Nairn, Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Rory Kinnear, Con O'Neill and Vico Ortiz will co-star in the upcoming comedy starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi. Nairn has previously recurred on HBO's Game of Thrones. Foad has guest starred on the British series Bloods. Kayo starred in Amazon's one-season comedy Truth Seekers. Kinnear starred for three seasons in Showtime's Penny Dreadful as well as its one-season spinoff Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. O'Neill appeared in the HBO limited series Chernobyl. Ortiz has recurred on Starz's Vida and Freeform's Everything's Gonna Be Okay.
  • Nairn will play Wee John Feeney. Foad will play Lucius. Kayo will play Oluwande. Kinnear will play both Captain Nigel Badminton and Chauncey Badminton. O'Neill will play Izzy. Ortiz will play Bonifacia.
  • Wanda Sykes has booked a recurring role on the drama's upcoming fifth season. She co-created and stars in Netflix's The Upshaws, which debuted its first season last month. She has previously received Emmy Award nominations for her guest roles on ABC's Black-ish, Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Comedy Central's Crank Yankers. And finally, she has produced stand-up comedy specials for HBO, Epix and Netflix.
  • She will play Allegra Durado, a brilliant and strategic attorney who's been away from the law for ten years while trying to finish her white whale of a book.
