Casting News - November 23, 2021

Amazon's Jack Ryan; Hulu's This Fool & Washington Black; and NBC's Law & Order.

HULU's WASHINGTON BLACK
  • Ernest Kingsley Jr. and Iola Evans have been cast as series regulars on the upcoming limited series starring Sterling K. Brown. Kingsley Jr. previously starred in the third season of the British series The Sparticle Mystery. Evans recurred on the final season of The CW's The 100.
  • Kingsley Jr. will play George Washington "Wash" Black, a young boy born to a Barbados sugar plantation who finds a way off the island in the company of his master's brother, a Steampunk inventor who has built an extraordinary flying machine. So begins a globe-spanning, Jules Verne-style adventure that eventually leads Wash to Nova Scotia, where he discovers that while the world can be cruel, it's also full of mystery and beauty and, in the form of young Tanna Goff, love. Wash becomes a man of science in his own right, his optimism and hope fueling his imagination and inspiring all he meets. Question is, can Wash outrun his past, or will the relentless hunters on his tail finally put an end to his dreams of flight?
  • Evans will play Tanna Goff, a young British woman of means "passing" as white but secretly born of a Melanesian mother on the Solomon Islands. But her secret eventually spills out, causing Tanna and her father to flee London for Nova Scotia. Determined to protect their social standing, her father pushes her into an arranged marriage with a local white merchant, but Tanna falls in love with 19-year-old Washington Black, a brilliant artistic soul living in the fullness of his Black identity. Loving Wash lets Tanna dare dream of a life without walls - free to walk in her true skin, free to pursue her passion of composing music. But how long can she walk with a foot in both worlds before those worlds smash together?
NBC's LAW & ORDER
  • Anthony Anderson has become the first actor from the original run of the drama to return for the upcoming revival. Moreover, Hugh Dancy has also joined the cast today. Anderson currently stars in ABC's Black-ish, which returns for its eighth and final season in January. Dancy previously starred for three seasons in NBC's Hannibal and three seasons in Hulu's The Path.
  • Anderson plays Detective Kevin Bernand. It's reported that Anderson has signed a one-year deal to reprise the role.
  • Dancy will play an Assistant District Attorney.
HULU's THIS FOOL
  • Michael Imperioli and Fabian Alomar have landed recurring roles on the upcoming comedy created by and starring Chris Estrada. Imperioli previously starred for six seasons in HBO's The Sopranos, winning an Emmy Award in 2004 for his supporting performance. Alomar recently guest starred on FX's Mayans M.C.
  • Imperioli will play Minister Leonard Payne, the founder of the gang rehab facility Hugs Not Thugs. He is fatherly, has a bit of a hair-trigger temper, insightful and pragmatic. A former mortgage broker who specialized in foreclosures, Payne had a breakdown that started him on the road to his current non-profit, but he learned one thing along the way, which he imparts to Julio (Estrada): "I have a bad habit of focusing on other people's problems so I don't have to deal with my own."
  • Alomar will play Fabian, a former gang member who Julio convinces to join the program at Hugs Not Thugs. At first skeptical, he decides to sign up and becomes an active member of the organization.
