Casting News - Archie Panjabi to Star in 'Hijack'; Hannah Dodd to Replace Ruby Stokes on 'Bridgerton'; Plus 3 More Updates!

Casting News - May 12, 2022

ABC's Big Sky; AppleTV+'s Hijack; Freevee's Primo; NBC's La Brea; and Netflix's Bridgerton.

NETFLIX's BRIDGERTON
  • Hannah Dodd has been tapped to replace Ruby Stokes as Francesca Bridgerton in the drama's upcoming third season. Stokes played the character in five episodes across the first two seasons. She was unable to continue in the role after being cast in Netflix's upcoming series Lockwood & Co. Dodd recently recurred on Netflix's Anatomy of a Scandal.
  • Francesca Bridgerton is a bit of a mystery within her chatty, extroverted family. Despite her reserved nature, she goes along to get along when it comes to society affairs, fortified with a dry wit and pragmatism that confound the fickle ton yet seem to draw attention when she least desires it.
NBC's LA BREA
  • Tonantzin Carmelo and Michelle Vergara Moore have been promoted to series regulars on the drama's upcoming second season. Both actresses recurred during the first season - with Carmelo appearing in five episodes while Moore was in three episodes.
  • Carmelo plays Paara, who comes from the Tongva tribe and is the leader of the village at the Fort.
  • Moore plays Ella Jones, an artist in her 40s who comes to realize the unexplainable visions she draws in her artwork are actually memories from her past life in 10,000 BC.
APPLE TV+'s HIJACK
  • Archie Panjabi will play the female lead opposite Idris Elba in the upcoming limited series created by George Kay. She previously starred for six seasons in CBS' The Good Wife, winning an Emmy Award for her supporting performance in 2010. She currently stars in Peacock's Departure, which has been renewed for a third season.
  • She will play Zahra Gahfoor, a counter terrorism officer who is on the ground when the plane is hijacked and becomes part of the investigation.
FREEVEE's PRIMO
  • Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Martin Martinez, Carlos Santos, Johnny Rey Diaz, Henri Esteve, Jonathan Medina, Nigel Siwabessy, Christina Vidal, Efrain Villa and Stakiah Washington will star in the upcoming comedy created by Shea Serrano.
  • Diaz-Silverio (The Good Fight, Suspicion) will play Rafa, a 16-year-old high school junior who must balance his mom and five uncles' opinions after finding out he has the chance to be the first person in his family to ever attend college.
  • Martinez (Never Have I Ever, Magnum P.I.) will play Miguel, one of Rafa's closest friends who is a bit of a smart aleck.
  • Santos (Gentefied, Undone) will play Ryan, the youngest of all Rafa's uncles. He works as a mid-level bank teller, but he tells everyone he works in finance.
  • Rey Diaz (Grey's Anatomy, CSI: Vegas) will play Rollie, one of Rafa's uncles and the middle child of his brothers. He's the wild man of the family. He is regularly in minor trouble with the law. Though he's feared as a brawler in the neighborhood, he's also the most sentimental of the group.
  • Esteve (Grown-ish, Homecoming) will play Mike, the second youngest of Rafa's uncles. He is a fit, disciplined, military man who acts extremely alpha male-y all the time, though nobody in the family buys it.
  • Medina (The Purge, The Cleaning Lady) will play Jay, the eldest of Rafa's uncles. He has worked at a full-time, labor-intensive job since he was 17. He moves through life in the most straightforward way possible. He is the ultimate pragmatist.
  • Siwabessy (The Truth About Lying, Is Like the Wind) will play Harris, another one of Rafa's closest friends, who has plenty of swagger and no use for college, as he intends to inherit his parents' corner store.
  • Vidal (United We Fall, Grand Hotel) will play Drea, Rafa's mother and the third eldest among her and her brothers. She's the beating heart of the family. She's insightful, clever and resourceful.
  • Villa (Better Call Saul, Briarpatch) will play Mondo, the second oldest of Rafa's uncles and a cosmic wanderer. His advice usually has a bizarrely comforting philosophical hue to it that rarely translates to practical application.
  • Washington (Everything Is Both) will play Mya, Rafa's friend who also happens to be his secret crush. She comes from a well-educated family for whom attending college is not an accomplishment but an expectation.
ABC's BIG SKY
  • Jensen Ackles will guest star in the drama's upcoming second season finale. He previously starred for fifteen seasons in The CW's Supernatural. He will next star in the upcoming third season of Amazon's The Boys.
  • He will play Beau Arlen, a confident and charming good ol' boy from Texas who steps in as temporary Sheriff and Jenny Hoyt's (Katheryn Winnick) new boss as a favor to his friend Sheriff Tubb (Patrick Gallagher).
