Amazon Expands 'Blade Runner' Universe with Series Order for 'Blade Runner 2099'

Amazon has today given a series order to the original drama series Blade Runner 2099 - a spinoff of the 1982 film Blade Runner and the 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049

As noted by the series' title, the drama is set 50 years after the events of the feature film sequel.

Silka Luisa developed the drama. She will executive produce with Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, Blade Runner 2049 writer Michael Green, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Ben Roberts, Cynthia Yorkin, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Frank Giustra, Isa Dick Hackett and Tom Spezialy. Amazon Studios, Scott Free Productions and Alcon Entertainment will produce.

"The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we're excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers," said Vernon Sanders, Head of Global Television, Amazon Studios. "We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors."
