Starz has today given a series order to the original drama series Power: Origins - the latest series in the premium cable network's Power franchise. The first season will produce 18 episodes.
The drama will follow Ghost and Tommy as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City. The series will be a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time in the Power franchise, which will highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.
Casting for the lead roles of Ghost and Tommy - previously portrayed by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora - will begin shortly. Furthermore, MeKai Curtis will reprise his role from Power Book III: Raising Kanan as the young adult version of Kanan Stark in the upcoming series.
Sascha Penn created the series and will serve as showrunner on the first season. He will executive produce with Courtney A. Kemp, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Mark Canton, Chris Selak and Kevin Fox. Lionsgate Television, G-Unit Film & Television, End of Episode and Canton Entertainment will produce.
"I'm excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the Power Universe's founding fathers," said Penn. "Ghost and Tommy's backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I'm thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won't see coming."
"Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy's origins story since we first met them in Power - and with the launch of this series, we're delivering in a big way," added Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming, Starz. "This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise's evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path."
The franchise began with Power, which aired for six seasons from 2014 to 2020. It has already produced three spinoffs - Power Book II: Ghost (2020-2024), Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force Notably, Raising Kanan and Origins are prequels to the original series while Ghost and Force were sequels.
Origins will debut after Force ends with its upcoming third season this fall and Raising Kanan concludes with its upcoming fifth season in 2026.
