During the broadcast network's Upfronts presentation today, CBS announced a series order for the latest spinoff in its NCIS franchise: NCIS: New York starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan.
The drama will follow NCIS Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) as he returns to his hometown of New York City to their field office, partnering with a roguish agent (Caan) and helping lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world.
LL Cool J previously starred for all fourteen seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles, which aired from September 2009 to May 2023. Since then, he's appeared as a recurring guest star on NCIS: Hawai'i and the original NCIS. That includes appearing in the upcoming April 21 and April 28 episodes of the mothership.
The casting marks Caan's return to CBS after starring for ten seasons on Hawaii Five-0 between September 2010 and April 2020. He previously portrayed his H50 character Danny "Danno" Williams" in a 2012 episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. He's expected to play a new character in NCIS: New York.
The pilot episode was written by R. Scott Gemmill, who wrote on all 14 seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles and was showrunner for seven of them. Meanwhile, Byron Balasco will serve as showrunner for the first season of the new series. Gemmill and Balasco will executive produce with LL Cool J and Jason Barrett. CBS Studios will produce.
The broadcast network has slotted NCIS: New York to air Tuesdays at 9/8c. this fall. It will be sandwiched between NCIS at 8/7c. and NCIS: Origins at 10/9c. Meanwhile, NCIS: Sydney is slated to join the lineup again at midseason.
