Paramount+'s Avatar: Seven Havens - Episode 1.02 "Into the Storm"

When a massive storm hits Ellora, Team Avatar unites to save their home and are confronted by a strange entity.

"Into the Storm" was written by Chad Quandt and directed by Jen Bennett

All of recorded history has been lost. Ellora only knows of Avatar Korra. Jae wasn't aware that there was more to the legend. He was alert to the possibility the Avatar could return. Now, it has become his reality. Karthik shares the story of Avatars being reincarnated throughout history. They've all accomplished great things. He also warns that Korra caused the Cataclysm. That's why she has received all the blame. He can't trust that there is more to the story. He has hope for the new Avatar. He already thought he found her. He discovered Nisha three years ago. He has been training her in secret since then. He can't allow anyone to think she is more than his assistant. She's more skilled as a bender than any of the cadets under his tutelage. She's eager to embrace her identity as the Avatar. She doesn't know the hatred the world has for her. She's not prepared for how they will respond. Karthik trusts that one day the world will need the Avatar again. They will be grateful when Nisha arrives. Today isn't that day. Nisha and Pavi have to wait at the compound and trust the Brigade to handle the threat to their haven.

Pavi grew up all alone. She's friendly but scared of the world. She's known she can bend all four elements. She didn't want to accept what that meant. She thought she could live in denial. That's why she was hiding. So long as she wasn't found, she would be save. Nisha was alone too. She was shielded from the world. Karthik strived to keep her safe. The best way to do so was in hiding. She's frustrated she can't live up to her destiny now. Nothing in history suggests twin Avatars is possible. It hasn't happened before. It provides a new angle to the story. It means Pavi and Nisha are no longer alone. They can't remember their past. When they reconnect, they are struck with a memory of playing catch together. They were happy. Something happened that made them block this out. It returns now that they are together once more. They are destined to accomplish greatness together. That doesn't mean they are immediately aligned. Pavi remains reluctant to show off her abilities. Nisha feels compelled to use her skills to help others in need. Pavi is scared. That doesn't prevent her from taking action. Ellora needs benders now to ensure its survival.

A massive storm strikes the haven. It all seems hopeless. It's more than just a powerful natural event too. It builds into a powerful spirit. Pavi and Nisha recognize it as an energy monster. It's a wicked character design. One that disrupts the new normal that has been created in this world. It threatens to destroy everything. And then, everything stops once it connects with Pavi and Nisha as they stand strong together. It doesn't make any sense. It only serves as a warning of the threat to come. The Avatars are more powerful together. Pavi can't allow fear to dictate her life. The sisters are tired of hiding. They aren't noticed when they go out. They help. Karthik strives to protect them. His roles are constantly blurred. He's the commanding officer whose orders must be followed no matter what. He's also the only thing Nisha has that resembles a father. He's a mentor who has trained her. He opens the compound to Pavi as well. He sees potential within her. The sisters were lost for years. Now, they've reunited. They are ready to be friends and sisters. That's all they have to be too. The future remains daunting. That's certain for every Avatar in this world.

The benders have the ability to do something. They can protect what they care about. That preservation is key. While history has been lost, the people of Ellora have something worth fighting for. They learn to push past their fears. That's what Pavi needed to see. It's okay to be afraid. That weariness offers her a unique perspective. Nisha's bold actions have their purpose too. She feels compelled forward. She wants her sister to feel that too. They are different. They have to be. They can't be the exact same. Their lives have been different up to this point. They must bring those experiences to the forefront. That will inform the choices they make. They don't know what the future brings. They understand the destiny that has been forced on them. They need to understand their individual identities too. Their playfulness can help shield them along the way. It's important to see which cat-monkey is faster. They can embrace that side of their lives with ease. That will serve them well. That quality has been present in all the prior Avatars. The seriousness shows up sooner than later too. That's already present. The mysteries abound. Pavi and Nisha already have a winning dynamic worth investing in though.
