Ryan Coogler's "The X-Files" Reboot Receives Series Order at Hulu

Hulu has today given a series order to the original drama series The X-Files developed by Ryan Coogler. The series is a reimagining of the FOX drama that aired for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002 and was revived for two seasons from 2016 to 2018. The reboot produced a pilot for the streamer earlier this year, with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel in the lead roles.

The drama will follow two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents (Deadwyler and Patel) who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

The cast in the pilot also featured Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrad and Sofia Grace Clifton.

Coogler wrote and directed the pilot, with Jennifer Yale set as showrunner for the first season. They will executive produce with original series creator Chris Carter, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Meanwhile, Deadwyler and Patel will co-executive produce with Simone Harris. 20th Television, Onyx Collective and Proximity Media will produce.

"I've loved The X-Files for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me," said Coogler. "What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. I couldn't have asked for better collaborators than my crew, colleagues at Proximity Media and our partners at Onyx Collective and 20th Television. I'm grateful for the trust and support they've given us as we take on this new chapter."
