NBC Cancels 'Ironside' & 'Welcome to the Family'; Sets 'Chicago P.D.' & 'Community' Premieres

Today, NBC has canceled new series Ironside and Welcome to the Family after each show aired only 3 episodes. The network has also announced their plans for specials to fill their time slots for the rest of the fall before new drama Chicago P.D. and Community fill the slots at midseason.

The network will debut Dick Wolf's Chicago P.D. - the spin-off of Chicago Fire - at 10/9c. on Wednesday, January 8 as well as the fifth season premiere of Community with back-to-back episodes at 8/7c. on Thursday, January 2.

Community then settles into its 8/7c. time period on Jan. 9 followed by Parks and Recreation at 8:30. The Jan. 9 episode will be the show's 100th and was co-written by Amy Poehler and Mike Schur.

Replacing Ironside in the 10PM Wednesday time slot for November and December will be a string of original programming, including new episodes of Dateline crime stories, Saturday Night Live holiday-themed specials and holiday music specials starring Kelly Clarkson and Michael Buble.

Thursday nights from 8-9PM for the remainder of the fall will include original back-to-back Parks and Recreation episodes, specials such as SNL Halloween, plus a previously-announced edition of The Voice and The Sound of Music Live! broadcast. In addition, The Sing-Off moves into the time period in December for two weeks.

Chicago P.D. will star Jason Beghe, Jon Seda, Jesse Lee Soffer, Sophia Bush, Scott Eastwood, LaRoyce Hawkins, Patrick Flueger, Elias Koteas, Marina Squerciati and Archie Kao. The show is a spinoff of NBC's popular Tuesday night drama Chicago Fire, which continues to see significant ratings increases in its second season.

Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Peter Jankowski, Danielle Gelber and director Joe Chappelle serve as executive producers. Chicago P.D. is a production of Universal Television and Wolf Films.

Community is set to begin its fifth season with stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Ken Jeong.

Community was created by Dan Harmon, who returns as executive producer. Russ Krasnoff, Gary Foster and Chris McKenna also serve as executive producers. Tristram Shapeero is executive producer/director.
