BET Renews 'Being Mary Jane' for Season 4

BET has renewed its original drama series Being Mary Jane for a fourth season, it was announced today by star Gabrielle Union at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. Production will begin in Atlanta later this year.

The drama also stars Lisa Vidal, Margaret Avery, Latarsha Rose, Aaron D. Spears, Richard Brooks, B.J. Britt, Raven Goodwin, Richard Roundtree and Stephen Bishop.

The fourth season will be the first without series creator Mara Brock Akil serving as showrunner. She left as a part of an overall deal she and her husband, Sam Akil, signed last year with Warner Bros. Television. It's unclear who will succeed her as showrunner for the upcoming season.

The third season wrapped in December 2015 and averaged 2.54 million total viewers in Live+3 figures. For its entire three season run, Being Mary Jane has also ranked as the No. 1 scripted cable series among black viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
