Amazon Rescinds Series Order for 'Highston'

This evening it has been announced that Amazon has rescinded its series order for original comedy series Highston. All plans for a six-episode first season of the show have now been scrapped.

Highston premiered as a pilot on the streaming service in early November 2015. In December 2015, the streamer gave it a series order. Since then, nothing has been said about the project. It was a part of the same pilot cycle that gave series orders to One Mississippi (already renewed for Season 2), Good Girls Revolt (debuted in October 2016 and was cancelled a month later), Z: The Beginning of Everything (set to debut this Friday) and Patriot (begins streaming on February 24).

The series was to focus on Highston Liggetts, a 19-year old with a wide circle of celebrity friends - that only he can see. His parents, Jean and Wilbur, force him to get psychiatric help, but his Uncle Billy thinks he's just fine. A comedy about what it means to be normal in a world that's anything but.

The cast included Lewis Pullman, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Chris Parnell and Curtis Armstrong.

Bob Nelson wrote the pilot, which was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. All three were to executive produce with Sacha Baron Cohen, Todd Schulman and Todd Hoffman. Amazon Studios, Four By Two Films and Bungalow Media+Entertainment were the production companies.

"We love Bob, Jon and Val, both producers named Todd and the incredibly talented cast," said Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios. "Unfortunately, not every series works out."
