Syfy Renews 'The Magicians' for Season 5

A day before the day returns for its fourth season, Syfy has renewed its original drama series The Magicians for a fifth season. The new season will once again consist of 13 episodes, which will debut in 2020.

The drama stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy, Jade Tailor, Brittany Curran and Trevor Einhorn.

Sera Gamble and John McNamara developed the drama based on the book series by Lev Grossman. After serving as an executive producer on the four previous seasons, Henry Alonso Myers will be promoted to co-showrunner alongside Gamble and McNamara for the upcoming fifth season.

Additional executive producers include Michael London, Mike Cahill, Janice Williams and Scott Smith. Universal Cable Productions, Groundswell Productions, Man Sewing Dinosaur and McNamara Moving Company produce.

"The Magicians raised the bar at Syfy and has gained momentum season after season, attracting a new audience to the channel," said Bill McGoldrick, President of Scripted, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. "We are proud of this series as it continues to break the boundaries of storytelling."

"Henry has been with the show since minute one of season one," added Gamble and McNamara. "His talent, professionalism and love of all things magical has been instrumental to our success. We couldn't be happier to see him become co-showrunner. Also, he bakes the greatest bread this side of the Hudson River."
