Development News - Chi McBride Set as Series Regular on Untitled CBS Comedy Pilot Starring Pete Holmes; Plus 2 More Updates!

Development News - April 8, 2021

ABC's Bucktown and CBS' Untitled Sarah Cooper & Untitled Mark Gross.

CBS' UNTITLED MARK GROSS PROJECT
  • Chi McBride is set as a series regular on the comedy pilot starring Pete Holmes. He previously starred for four seasons in NBC's The John Larroquette Show, four seasons in FOX's Boston Public, two seasons in ABC's Pushing Daisies, two seasons in FOX's Human Target and seven seasons in CBS' Hawaii Five-0.
  • He will play Archie, the proud owner of the bowling alley Archie's Lanes: Home of the Curly Fry. He is both Tom's (Holmes) mentor and longstanding father figure. His direct and unequivocal look on life urges Tom to pursue his dream.
ABC's BUCKTOWN
  • Annie Gonzalez and Sofia Capanna have been cast as series regulars on the comedy pilot starring Shannon Woodward and Jane Lynch. Gonzalez has previously recurred on Netflix's Gentefied and Starz's Vida. Capanna will be making her acting debut with the pilot.
  • Gonzalez will play Jessie, Amy's (Woodward) opinionated best friend who works beside her as an assistant at the ad agency.
  • Capanna will play Jodeci, Amy's quirky, offbeat seventh-grade niece. She's had a few knocks in life but that hasn't dimmed her optimism.
CBS' UNTITLED SARAH COOPER PROJECT
  • Natalie Morales, Amy Landecker and Alice Lee will play the lead roles in the comedy pilot written by Sarah Cooper and Cindy Chupack. Morales wrote, directed and starred in the 2021 feature film Language Lessons. Landecker starred for four seasons in Amazon's Transparent and in the Showtime limited series Your Honor. Lee currently stars in NBC's Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, which is now airing its second season.
  • Morales will play Joanna, a conflict-averse, people-pleasing middle manager at the small tech company Lucent Muse, whose new hire Elyse challenges her "go along to get along" career philosophy. She lives with her boyfriend of two years, a sweet, loyal guy who might be too sweet and loyal for her.
  • Landecker will play Dale, the only woman on the leadership team at Lucent Muse. She lives by the philosophy "What Would Sheryl Sandberg Do?" and believes that the way to get ahead in a male-dominated workplace is to work twice as hard and be one of the boys. As the main breadwinner in her marriage, she spends much of her time as many successful women do, in couple's therapy.
  • Lee will play Elyse, a recent hire at Lucent Muse. She's thrilled to be there and to share all of her ideas. However, her inability to bite her tongue and just be an observer gets her into trouble with the boys' club at work, led by a trio of men called The Bryans.
